Getting Ready for the Baja Ha-Ha

10 Days and Counting! We sail on Monday, October 28.  I am attaching the link to the day to day itinerary, if you are interested in following us. http://www.baja-haha.com/dates.html

For the last month and a half, Bill and I have been readying ourselves and the boat for our great Baja adventure!  Bill has been taking great care in making sure the major safety issues and needs of the boat are ready while I have been focused on what costume to wear as we leave and how to sneak aboard more than my allotted clothing.

We made a half dozen visits to the Dinghy Doctor before finally deciding on the perfect dinghy for us and Bill practically owns a big share of West Marine, so much has been purchased there!

West Marine Dinghy Doctor_FotorIMG_2726I completed the ASA 101 and ASA 103 sailing courses and am now certified to get myself into trouble. Seriously, I feel so much better about this adventure now that I have some sailing knowledge and skills.  Trust me, though, I still have so much more to learn!!!!!

IMG_2720We also visited a friend and fellow teacher, Debbie, who spent last winter in the Sea of Cortez with her husband Dan. They live in Big Bear during the summer and we spent some time up there with them draining their brains of everything they learned.  We left with so much new information, new apps, and increased excitement for our trip.  Hopefully, we will cross paths with them this winter, as they are returning to continue their adventure.  (Check out their blog found in the column on my blog page)

There are so many really experienced sailors who live at the marina and who have been so generous with their time and knowledge to help prepare the boat for the journey.  We are truly indebted to them!

Bill may be the Skipper, but I am not Gilligan!  I am the Communications Officer and the hardest part of my job so far has been to get Bill to learn how to use my iphone!!! If not only to listen to music and take pictures, let alone text, but to be able to contact people if the need arises!  He is getting better at the photos and the plan is to post many more!
